Justice + Service

JUSTICE

We believe God calls us to the work of both service and justice. Service involves meeting a direct need to help alleviate hardship. Justice aims to discover the root causes of social problems (what the Apostle Paul calls “principalities and powers” in Ephesians 6:12), eradicate them, and help construct a new world of equity, peace, and flourishing. Our members are involved in a variety of justice efforts — racial, environmental, disability, and LGBTQ justice to name a few.

How can you get involved in justice WORK?

  1. We have a formal partnership with the Lighthouse Foundation, a Black Queer-led, multiracial social justice organization that advances justice for Black LGBTQ+ people across Chicagoland.

  2. Plug into an organization that our members are working with.

  3. Join us for our Justice Retreat. Every spring, we spend a weekend exploring what it means to pursue justice as a follower of Jesus.

SERVICE

The Inclusive Collective partners with our friends at South Loop Campus Ministry for a weekly dinner party called South Loop Community Table (SLCT).

We host SLCT with our neighbors experiencing homelessness every Sunday night at Second Presbyterian Church (1936 Michigan Avenue). SLCT is a space that strives to break down barriers that society has created — barriers that tell us who should and shouldn’t build community together. It is a space made of folks that believe wholeheartedly in the power of community—of seeing people for all of who they are, no matter their situation. SLCT is a celebration of God’s kin-dom, a living example of how God intended the world to be: inclusive, communal, loving, and just. SLCT is Community. It is Sanctuary. It is Celebration.
